This one is for the Blogger Dictator...

Yes Jessica this post is for you! Let me just say this is my third time writing this post. Everytime I almost post it it gets deleted somehow. So here is hoping this one works.

Let me first start by playing catch up from my last post. As Nancy told me this morning my last post was 100 years ago and so much has changed. Well after I passed the NCLEX life was pretty fabulous. It didn't last very long though. Scott and I broke up at the beginning of March and then around my birthday I got extremely sick. Two days before my birthday I went to the doctor because I thought I had strep. Well I went in and they did a strep test and it came back negative. She told me it was just a strep throat. Yeah no. Well then I went home and just slept. Not getting any better. I gargled salt water like they told me too and nothing helped. Then I went back in on my birthday and the doctor told me it was just a sore throat. I could barely talk. I could barely swallow and it was just a sore throat?! I don't think so! Well my mom demanded I get antibiotics and we went home. But before I left the doctor told me that it possibly could be mono but I should just come back in three weeks if it doesn't get better. Ok I am a nurse I know you don't have to wait three weeks from onset of symptoms to do a blood test. She was a MORON! Yeah I swore that day I would never go back to her. So I went home yet again with no definite answer. I was beginning to think that it was all just stress from the breakup and then the next day it became increasingly hard to breathe. I went to take a nap, it seemed like that is all I did for the month of march. I woke up early from my nap barely being able to breathe at all and I went up stairs to my mom and told her that we needed to go to the ER now. She drove me and my dad met us there. I was having such a hard time breathing and could barely swallow I started to get panicky. The nurse who was designated to start my IV should never start another one in her nursing career! My arm was black and blue from the inside of my elbow to my wrist. If I weren't so weak I would have hit her. They started giving me fluids because I was dehydrated. Then the doctor came in. She was so nice. She looked in my throat and said "the doctor that looked at your throat must have been blind!" she got me a mirror and I could see the whit patches in the back of my throat. I could also see that my tonsils were almost touching. She ordered my the really good pain medicine and two huge doses of antibiotics and two huge doses of steroids. She started talking about CAT scans to see if I had an abscess in my throat. But she wanted to see what my blood work looked like first. The nurse came in and thankfully it wasn't the awful IV nurse. Lol she gave me the pain medicine and started the antibiotics and steroids. As soon as that pain medicine hit my system I felt no more physical pain. But every emotion I had been harboring for the past couple of weeks came out like a flood. I couldn't help it. I tried to hold it back because I didn't want my mom to see me like that. It didn't work. I just cried and cried wanting things I knew I couldn't have. I eventually let it all out and could just sleep. The doctor came back and told me that not only did I have strep but I had mono as well! She said that she hadn't seen a case as bad as mine in a while. Great not only was I sick but I was sick with the kissing disease and I was single. Awesome. Not! Well I stayed in the ER for about 6 hours then I got to go home. When I left I was exhausted but I could breathe and I could swallow. My diet after that consisted of fruit Popsicles and chik-fila milk shakes. Mmm now I am craving that. Haha well I took three weeks off from work and just slept. I slept in the guest room so I would be close to my mom. She took such good care of me! :)

The mono tiredness passed and I was able to go back to work at the Y and start really looking for jobs again. I would send out 10-15 applications a day. Nothing came. Then one day around Emma's graduation I got an interview at a nursing home in Boulder,Co. As soon as I walked in I had a bad feeling. It just got worse by the minute. If I took the job I would have been a charge nurse of 28 patients and the only nurse on the floor with only two nurses aides. There would have only been four nurses in the building. I would have only gotten 5 days orientation. Yeah needless to say I turned that job down. I went back to the drawing boards. Sending out applications day in and day out. I decided that if I didn't hear anything by The end of July I would look at going back to school to get my BSN. Well May and June came and went and I heard nothing. I began to look at different nursing programs to bridge over my associates degree to a bachelors degree. Then one day in July a miracle happened! I got a phone call. It was a 931 area code. I usually don't answer numbers I don't know but something inside said "ANSWER IT!" so I did. Beverly McAbee was on the phone and she asked me if I was still looking for a job. I told her I was but I told her I didn't know who she was or where she wanted to give me a job. She told me that she was the Chief Officer of Nursing at United Regional Medical Center in Manchester, TN. My jaw hit the floor. She asked if I would like an interview. I told her that I was in Colorado and asked if I could have phone interview first before I decided to fly out or not. She agreed and I asked every question I could think of and she had an answer for all of them. So at the end I told her I would book a flight and come down. So I booked one for the next weekend and I went down. I stayed with friends of my family, the Caten's, they were so good to me. I came in the middle of their family reunion and they still picked me up from the airport, let me stay with them, drove me to and from my interview, and took me back to the airport. Not only did they let me stay but they helped me get my job. I had no clue but they have shares in my hospital so Brian went in with me on the day of my interview and he said he would throw his weight around. Lol he made sure that Beverly saw me with him. He was so good :) then in the interview she asked where I was staying and so I told her. Turns out she grew up with Brian! Small world! Yeah it made it a very nice interview. Actually she only asked me four or five questions and she then started talking about when I would be able to start. All I could think was did this actually just happen? Do I actually have a job as a nurse? There were so many miracles that got me this job and I will never forget them. Then I flew home but not without some difficulties. I ended up being stuck at the airport for two days. I will never fly stand by out of Nashville again. But thanks to the Fiala's I was able to get home. I owe them big time!

When I got home the real fun began...PACKING! haha not! But thankfully my family had just downsized to an apartment so most of my stuff was packed. The hardest part about leaving was leaving my baby sister. She is my best friend. I know that I can tell her anything with no judgement. Before I left Erica Moore took pictures of us. Here are a few. Erica is AMAZING!

NCLEX

Well I finally did it. I passed the dreaded NCLEX. Hardest two and a half hours of my entire life. I went down to Pueblo last Wednesday night and took the test on Thursday morning at 10:15. I was so nervous. But throughout all of my nerves and craziness I still had the best support system anyone could ask for. Not only did I get to go down to Pueblo a day earlier to relax a little but my Mom, Dad, and sister Emma came with me. It made it so much easier. I had to wait all day Friday and Saturday morning to find out. When I finally could find out I didn't want to. I thought Scott was going to murder me. I just wanted to live ignorantly. So my mom made me do it. Because if I wasn't going to do it either she or Scott were going to hack my account. This is something that I had to be by myself for so I got on my computer entered the credit card number to pay for my early results and hit enter. I was ready to throw up. I looked at the screen and it said PASS. I was in shock. I looked at it three more times and it still said PASS. Oh happy day! Scott wanted, well demanded, that he be the first one to know. So I called him. Of course I was crying. I was so flippin happy! I quickly had to tell him that these were happy tears. Then my mom opened my door and all she heard was me sobbing and saying "I am NEVER EVER EVER taking that test again!" She was worried. I told her I passed. I thought she was gonna pass out. Best day of my life. I have never been so happy. It is fantastic! I don't really know what to do with myself now that I don't have to study for five hours every day. It is weird. My room has been getting a lot of needed attention so that is good. Now I just have to wait for my license to some in the mail so I can start applying for jobs. I can't wait! I just want to help people, that is my goal. I am so glad that I can now legally say that I am Hannah Mero, R.N. :) Thank you to every single person that gave me hope and helped through the hardest years of my life!
